Russia's MFA calls international community to condemn "Imedi" for "report" on invasion into Georgia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Russian Federation has treated the report about simulated Russian invasion into Georgia put on air by the "Imedi" TV Company as irresponsible and immoral. Andrei Nesterenko, official spokesman of the MFA, expressed hope that the international community would duly appraise the incident. A number of western diplomats have already made their damning statements to this end.

Trial of Fatima Margieva postponed

The planned today's session on Fatima Margieva, a teacher of the South-Ossetian State University, accused of firearm and explosive illegal purchase and storage, has been postponed till March 18. The reason is in the problems with the stay in Tskhinvali of Margieva's lawyer, who is from Vladikavkaz (North Ossetia).

Rally in support of Fatima Margieva held in Vladikavkaz

On March 8, in North Ossetia, the committee for release of the teacher of the South-Ossetian State University Fatima Margieva held a sanctioned rally. The protesters gathered in the Theatre Square of Vladikavkaz with a demand to stop criminal prosecution of Margieva.

Lebedev: UN Special Representative's report on his visit to South Ossetia is lopsided and biased

The Russian delegation labelled as politicized the report of Walter Kelin, Special Representative of Secretary General of the United Nations on Internally Displaced Persons' Rights, which summed up his visit to South Ossetia. The report was presented on March 8 at the 13th Session of the United Nations on Human Rights (HRS) held in Switzerland. In the opinion of Mikhail Lebedev, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation at the UN Branch and other international organizations in Geneva, the report is lopsided, biased and contains factual mistakes.

Residents of South Ossetia state that they received no compensation

Many residents of South Ossetia complain that they received no compensations, due to them under the decision made after Russia had recognized independence of South Ossetia. The compensations were intended to the victims of the warfare in August 2008. Many of those who received the money assure that it was enough to reimburse only a small part of damage.

People's Party of South Ossetia demands release of Fatima Margieva

Today, the People's Party of South Ossetia has made a statement with indignation against the arrest of its member and public figure Fatima Margieva. In the opinion of the deputies who represent this party, her arrest is illegal and was caused by her political activities.

Hammarberg not to deal with missing residents of South Ossetia

Investigation of the cases of missing citizens of South Ossetia has been commissioned to two international experts - Bruce Richard Pegg (Australia) and Nicolas Cebir (France). This was reported to journalists in Tskhinvali by Thomas Hammarberg, Supreme Commissioner of the Council of Europe for Human Rights, who added that he will deal with the cases of prisoners.
